Alongside with baked figs with goat cheese, pears and blue cheese are one of my favorite pairings. I like them raw, like in this easy pears and blue cheese appetizer but this time I tried to bake them and it was also delicious! It’s a great and luscious appetizer to serve at parties or dinner dates. I made it several times and it was always a success! Now, when ripe pears are in season, it’s especially delicious.

I made it for my husband’s birthday party this year, and it disappeared really fast! Pairing cheese with fruits is my go-to method to create elegant appetizer recipes for parties. Everybody loves them and they are really easy to make!
These baked pears with gorgonzola combine sweet and savory flavors, melt-in-your-mouth texture and spectacular appearance. Tangy blue cheese, sweet pears with honey, a herby touch of thyme and a little crunch from walnuts… This is an elegant way to serve fruits and cheese, which your guests will surely appreciate!
Best Pears for Baking
The best choice would be ripe but still mildly crisp sweet pears, such as Concorde or Green Anjou.
You don’t want to use very ripe and soft pears as they might lose their shape after baking.
How to Make Baked Pears with Gorgonzola and Honey
The recipe is super easy and only requires 10 minutes (+10 minutes baking time) and 5 ingredients.
Start by cutting your pears in halves and scooping the seeds with a teaspoon or a melon baller scoop. Place the halves open-faced on a baking dish and drizzle with liquid honey. Place some sprigs of thyme on top and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes or until the flesh is soft enough when pierced with a fork.
Let cool and place a teaspoon of soft gorgonzola or any other blue cheese into each pear boat. Garnish with walnuts and drizzle with more honey if desired. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Serving Options
You can serve these baked pears with cheese both warm and cold. If you don’t want your cheese to melt, wait until the pears are cooled down completely before stuffing them with blue cheese. I like when the cheese is slightly melted, so I stuff them when they are still warm.
This easy appetizer pairs well with white wine, such as Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer or Prosecco.
