The simple marinade for these Steak Bites turn plain steak into something so delicious and full of flavor!
Today, September 14th 2016, is my blog’s 6th birthday! 😀 How cool, huh. It’s kind of hard to believe I’ve been blogging for 6 years now. I started it with absolutely no expectations. It was truly just going to be a family blog- sharing family photos and news for friends, and then I started posting recipes and the rest is history.
I now have over 778 recipes and it’s become the career of my dreams. I couldn’t be happier AND I couldn’t do this without you amazing readers stopping by every day, so I want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. ♥
Now, let’s talk about these Steak Bites. We need to talk about them because they are a must-make! I have cooked these for dinner twice in a week because we love them so much. I bet you already have the marinade ingredients in your pantry right now! They are all simple staples that turn some steak into something really delicious.
Dinner literally takes just minutes to make and tastes so good! I like to serve ours with a green salad and a veggie. It’s a really awesome low-carb dinner that makes my belly happy. 🙂 I hope you give this recipe a try!

Steak Bites
The simple marinade for these Steak Bites turn plain steak into something so delicious and full of flavor!
Cook Time 4 minutes minutes
Total Time 20 minutes minutes
Servings 4
Author Holly
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 2 Tablespoons dried basil
- 1 Tablespoon dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 ½ lbs. flat iron or top sirloin steak cut in 1-inch pieces
Instructions
Place all ingredients, except steak, in a large ziplock baggie. Stir with a spoon to combine.
Drop steak pieces in and seal shut. Shake gently to coat steak entirely in marinade. Place bag in refrigerator to marinate for 15 minutes or up to 24 hours. (The longer it marinates the more flavorful and tender the steak will be.)
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Heat skillet until it’s very hot. Remove steak pieces from marinade using a slotted spoon and place in hot skillet. Discard marinade. Cook steak according to your desired temperature. We like medium-well so I cooked ours for about 3 minutes.
Serve warm and enjoy!

Thanks so much, Aileen!

Made these tonight, so good!

Happy anniversary!! These look really good. I always have trouble with my steak being too tough. Any ideas – do I need to marinade them longer, cook them a shorter amount of time?
ThanksReply
These cook super fast, so keep that in mind depending on how you like your steak cooked. Also, the marinade helps to really tenderize the meat.
Reply
Do as Holly said, you probably cooked it too long, I usually do for just a couple minutes turning them take a thermometer and check what temp it is, usually I cook mine little rare or pink. you did it well done and it gets like shoe leather… GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS.Reply
Make sure you are cutting it against the grain, cutting a steak incor will result in tough meat

Happy blogiversary!!! I’m so glad we met through blogging and became friends! I miss you girl <3

Can you use Filet Mignon instead?
Reply
Yes. I’m sure any good cut of steak would be amazing with this marinade!
Reply
Can you use any marinade with steak bites?
Reply
Yes, they should work with any marinade! 🙂
Reply
I made these tonight served over white rice. My family really enjoyed them. I used a pretty good cut of meat, I think that is key. Thanks!
Reply
I like the idea of being able to use a cheaper cut of meat to achieve a “good steak” taste and texture. I followed the recipe exactly but 2 Tablespoons of basil seemed way to much, for us anyway. I’ll greatly reduce it next time

This looks delicious!! My husband has an aversion to olive oil, what’s the best substitute?
Reply
Avocado oil has a high smoke point, canola, or peanut oil would work also.
Reply
Right, Avocado Oil you can get at Costco, it cost about $9.00 and change but it too is high heat, and very good, and it is not a gallon neither. It is a lesser amount.Reply
Very easy to make. If you are sensitive to soy sauce or Westchester, it may not be for you. Myself, it was too strong.
Reply
These were delicious and so easy to make!

Can this recipe be doubled? I need to feed 7.
Reply
Yes, it can be easily doubled!

Hi Holly
Could I boil the marinade then thicken and add to bites as a sauce?Reply
I love your recipes. Everyone I have tried has turned out yummy – spot on. Thank you so much for sharing!

Made these the other night, me and my family all agreed they were 5 stars outta 5!! Really awesome, definitely going in the dinner rotation.
Reply
I made these tonight in the crockpot…so good! Thank you for sharing
Reply
How long in the crockpot? Were they tender?
Reply
What temp and how long in the crockpot ?
Reply
Low or high? How long?
Reply
Hi! I was wondering if you add any oil to the skillet before cooking these? I can’t wait to try them!

I used these for a low-carb stir fry tonight, and they were AWESOME. I marinated the beef tips (I used stew beef) overnight in a ziploc bag, then baked them until nearly done in the oven. Then I drained the liquid off, tossed the beef tips into a pot with a bagged stir fry veggie mix (bok choi and other fresh veggies, not frozen), added a little sesame oil and tossed until the veggies were *just* wilted. No other seasoning needed and the normally tough stew beef was SO tender.
Bonus: I had enough beef tips left over for another meal tomorrow.

Does it have to be bites or can I cook whole?
Reply
I’m in LOVE with this recipe!!! Tried it tonight with the flat iron steak option and it’s an instant new family favorite!
Reply
I can’t wait to try it…I will let you know how yummy they are..ty for the record
Reply
Oops Ty for sharing your recipes

A little too “herby” for my families liking. Are 2 tablespoons dried basil correct? Maybe 2 teaspoons would not knock us out like they did tonight for our dinner. I used flat iron steaks and they were tender, but again way too many herbs.
Reply
Yes, it’s correct. But you could always use less if that’s your taste preference 🙂
Reply
I put in 1 tbsp not 2 and less pepper as well because my kids are sensitive to so much pepper.
Reply
I made this tonight I think the cut of meat was a bit tough, also a bit to salty, any ideas on what to use to not make it so salty and a better cut of meat?
Thanks
LynnReply
Made this last night, served with some crispy tater tots. Was delish! Will definitely make again.

Do you happen to know the nutrition information on the steak bites? I’m trying the keto diet and trying to account for everything I eat! These look great!
Reply
This looks very low carb. I’d substitute soy sauce for liquid aminos. Will be trying this recipe next day or two

I keep meaning to come back and comment on this recipe and I finally just made myself do it. This recipe is phenomenal! My fiancé calls it the best thing he’s ever gotten from the internet. We’ve put it on steak bites, full steak, pork chops, salmon, and chicken. It’s been absolutely wonderful every single time. I don’t even have to ask him if he wants me to marinate things in anything else. This is all we’re using for anything. I don’t even have to look at the recipe anymore. Thanks so much for sharing!!!

What do you serve with these?

Great recipe! I have made it several times and always a hit. I shared it on my own blog The Gypsy Professional and gave you credit.

Made these last night and my family devoured them! I suggest the full 24hr marinade so the meat is tender. Will definitely be making this over and over again!
Reply
These are the best. I first found the recipe in 2017 just had to come back and print it again because my original was hosed! lol These are simply incredible and everyone I’ve made them for LOVES them. If I’d lost my recipe, my family would not be happy at all. One of our all time favorites. Thank you !
Reply
RIGHT ON HOLLY. People just don’t read properly, I always read a recipe two times and make sure I have it right.Reply
Do you think these could be marinated and then put into single serving size bags and frozen? Cooking for one over here.Reply
I definitely think you could freeze these after marinating them!
Reply
Can you Substitute fresh basil and fresh parsley instead of dried??Reply
Yes of course!
Reply
Best steak marinade!Reply
Happy New Year! Making steak bites tonight..do I need to put oil in pan to fry or is there enough in bites? Thanks
Reply
Happy New Year, Barbara! No oil needed. The steak bites will have enough oil on them from the marinade. Enjoy!
Reply
If you’re debating to make this do it! It’s so good you won’t need sauce. We’ve made it in a pan cut in small pieces and also left it WHOLE and grilled. It’s Amazing both ways. Thank you for sharing your recipe❤️Reply
LOVE this marinade! I serve it with a roasted sweet potato and broccoli recipe over rice.Reply
I can See how you made it 6+ years, congratulations! This recipe is super simple to make, and you made it so yummy my toughest critic has made this her new favorite! Thank you!!Reply
I had thinner pieces but this was still excellent! Very flavorful! Thank you for sharing.Reply
This is one of the best recipes I have found!! I tweaked it a bit (due to time), but I just threw everything in the crockpot on low for just a few hours. Outstanding!Reply
Very good. Serving with the horseradish sauce is key. Use low sodium and less basil.
Reply
I made the recipe but I toned down the basil and added some thyme instead. I also added a large splash of red wine vinegar. I think next time I make it I would add red pepper flakes to the marinade because for me it needed a bit of zip. Also i have a soy allergy so I subbed coconut aminos.Reply
This was delicious. My whole family enjoyed it.Reply
These were really easy and a huge hit!Reply
Wow!! Thank you for the recipe, I made these tonight and they’re perfect as is!Reply
I’ve been following you maybe for all 6 years.. ha! I love your recipes and quite a few have been in my regular rotation now. The 3 packet roast and crock pot italian chicken are just a few favorites!
Reply
These turned out Amazing! One of the easiest recipes I’ve made and by far the most flavorful. Thank you!Reply
